ILOILO City – Western Visayas recorded 654 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) yesterday, its highest number of new infections in a single day to date.
COVID-19 Regional Case Bulletin No. 433 of the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 showed Iloilo province with highest recorded cases at 160 – 157 local cases, two locally stranded individuals (LSIs), and one Authorized Person Outside Residence (APOR).
Bacolod City came in second with 142, of which 139 were local cases, one LSI and two APORs, followed by Negros Occidental with 125 local cases.
Iloilo City, meanwhile, logged 123 local cases.
Other provinces also reported local cases. These were Capiz (42), Aklan (32), Antique (14), and Guimaras (13).
The total active cases in the region are now 7,706.
Data showed 60.56 percent of the active cases were asymptomatic; 34.60 percent were mild cases; 2.41 percent were moderate; 2.45 percent severe; and 0.08 percent critical.
Yesterday’s regional bulletin also showed one of the highest recoveries at 707, bringing the total to 39,837.
Deaths due to COVID-19 have already reached 1,166 with additional 13 deaths yesterday.
On the other hand, of the 7,706 total active cases in the region, Iloilo City had the highest at 1,755 followed by Negros Occidental with 1,744; Iloilo Province with 1,529; Bacolod City with 1,257; Capiz with 586; Aklan with 366; Antique, 349; and Guimaras, 120./PN
