BACOLOD City – The heavy rains generated by Tropical Storm “Dante” between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning left P3.1 million worth of damage to Negros Occidental’s infrastructure and agriculture.
Hinoba-an town alone reported seven damaged infrastructure – a day care center, two flood control projects, a health center, a basketball court, a road, and a bridge – estimated at P518,500, according to Zeaphard Caelian, head of the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD).
The damaged road and bridge, however, remain passable, he clarified.
In the municipality of Binalbagan, a box culvert in Barangay Santol was damaged by the flood. The local government, however, has yet to submit a complete assessment of its infrastructure.
A separate report from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist showed Binalbagan and Hinoba-an incurring P1,775,040 losses in damaged rice fields and other crops.
Cadiz City also submitted its own report showing P872,785.31 losses in damaged crops.
Despite these, the PDMPD reported that the province’s lifelines which included roads, power supply, and communications were not affected./PN
