KALIBO, Aklan – On July 2, Aklan recorded its highest single day new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) – 114.
This raised to 4,531 the total COVID-19 cases in the province since the pandemic started last year.
The death toll, on the other hand, was at 106.
Of the 114 new cases, 69 were in Kalibo town; nine in New Washington town; and eight each in Makato, Ibajay and Malay.
As of July 2, Kalibo had 193 active infections and 42 deaths, according to Provincial Health Office-Aklan.
Other towns that recorded infections over 100 were Nabas, Ibajay, Numancia, Banga, New Washington, Makato, Balete, Altavas, Batan, Tangalan, Lezo, and Malinao.
Aklan’s daily positivity rate rose to 35 percent – or three out of 10 samples.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Cornelio Cuachon Jr. said the number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized also went up to 68 in three hospitals in Aklan, while 676 cases were under facility quarantine or home isolation.
