ILOILO – If you really want to exercise your right of suffrage in the May 2022 elections, you still have about seven days to register, said Atty. Wilfred Jay Balisado, director of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Western Visayas.
Comelec extended the voters’ registration from Oct. 11 to Oct. 30 to accommodate first-time voters.
Registrants must wear facemasks and face shields, observe social distancing, sanitize their hands, and undergo body temperature check.
They are also encouraged to bring their own ball pens to reduce the risk of contracting coronavirus disease 2019.
Comelec-6 is so far satisfied with the turnout of registrants, said Balisado.
Around 4.7 million in the region are eligible to vote in the May 9, 2022 elections, he revealed.
All poll offices are prepared for a possible surge in registrants during the last week of registration.
“Nag-transfer tayo sa malaking venues like malls or bigger areas or gymnasium or covered court” to accommodate more registrants, said Balisado.
The registration is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Balisado hopes “(would-be voters) will really avail of (the extension).”
“Para hindi sayang ‘yong sakripisyo ng Comelec,” Balisado said. “‘Yong Comelec medyo pagod na rin but then trabaho kailangan gawin.”/PN
