ILOILO City – Hospitals here claim they are now being pushed into a corner to pursue their plan of non-renewal of accreditation with the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) this 2022 if recommendations made to the PhilHealth central office are not acted upon.
In a letter addressed to Secretary Francisco Duque, PhilHealth chairman of the Board, Iloilo City private hospitals expressed frustration that the result of the reconciliation process with PhilHealth Region 6 did not meet their expectations.
The letter stated that due to manpower, technology and policies of the central office, only an average of 15.52 percent payment of their unpaid claims was made by the end of October 2021.
The hospitals mentioned that they witnessed the effort of PhilHealth Region 6 to reconcile claims as well as the action plan and recommendations made by Regional Vice President Atty. Valerie H. Hollero to the Central Office which, if implemented, could help solve the situation.
They are waiting for the action of the Central Office on the recommendations made by Atty. Hollero during the ARTA meeting on Oct. 15, 2021.
Among the recommendations made were to remove the 60-day period to file claims in order to facilitate payment.
More than P46,123,345 worth of claims have been denied due to non-compliance with this provision.
The above-mentioned is just one of the reforms that need to be implemented to resolve the current issues between the hospitals and PhilHealth since hospitals cannot continue to operate with depleted financial resources caused by the non-payment of their claims./PN
