Guimaras road mishap kills 7-month-old baby

GUIMARAS – A collision between a motorcycle and a tricycle in Barangay Suclaran, San Lorenzo, Guimaras at around 1:30 p.m. on March 19 left two dead – a seven-month-old baby boy and a 34-year-old man.

The baby was one of the passengers of the tricycle. The other fatality was the driver of the motorcycle – Michael Nono of Barangay Constancia, San Lorenzo, Guimaras.

“Si Michael Nono naga ekis-ekis na ang dalagan sang iya motor kay naka inum. Siya ang bumungo sa tricycle. Gin agaw niya ang linya sang tricycle,” said Police Captain Somes of the San Lorenzo police station.

Both the baby and Nono died while being rushed to the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital.

Nono succumbed to head injuries because he was not wearing a helmet, according to Somes.

Nono was with his seven-year-old daughter at the time of the accident. Also not wearing a helmet, she got injured and was taken to the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital, too, for treatment.

The tricycle driver, on the other hand, survived but with injuries. Somes identified him as the dead baby’s 25-year-old father, Geumel Martir.

Other passengers of Martir were also injured – Crizel Ann Gadia, 25 (live-in partner of Martir); Lizyl Gabasa, 32; and a five-year-old girl. They were treated at the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital, too./PN
