ANTIQUE – The local government unit (LGU) of Libertad hopes to win this year’s Galing Pook Awards. Its “Libertad Digitalization Program” will be subjected to validation.
Mayor Mary Jean N. Te said the “Libertad Digitalization Program” was developed to make government projects and programs more accessible.
It was made possible through the efforts of the Municipal Planning and Development Office, headed by Robert G. Nicopior.
“Kalipay naton nga mangin isa sa mga i-validate. Kabay nga madinalag-on naton nga ma-i-presenta kag mapakita ang aton entry sa mga evaluators,” said Te.
On Aug. 8, the Galing Pook Awards 2023 Site Validation team sent a letter to Te and Nicopior that read, “We are pleased to inform you that the LGU’s above-mentioned program application is among the programs for site validation for this year’s Galing Pook Awards. The validation is the next stage after the first screening.”
It added: “In this connection, may we coordinate with you the visit of the National Selection Committee member assigned to evaluate your program from Aug. 22–23, 2023, including travel time.”
In 2020, Libertad was among the 10 Galing Pook Awardees for its Fish Forever Savings Club Program which taught fishermen financial literacy.
Galing Pook is a leading resource institution that recognizes, capacitates and promotes innovation, sustainability, citizen empowerment and excellence in local governance. It has empowered hundreds of LGUs to develop programs and social innovations through the Galing Pook Awards, Galing Pook Academy and Galing Pook Advocacies.
The Galing Pook Awards, launched on Oct. 21, 1993, has recognized 329 LGU programs from 200 LGUs in the country.
