NGCP upgrade triggers up to 14-hour power outage in Iloilo City on Sept. 19

ILOILO City – The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will execute 12 hours of scheduled power interruption across large portions of Iloilo City on Saturday, September 19, to conduct rehabilitation and preventive maintenance works as part of its ongoing Iloilo Substation upgrading project.

The grid maintenance, which was originally slated for August 30 but subsequently rescheduled, will directly impact seven substations under the MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power): Jaro, Megaworld, Diversion, Molo, Arevalo, Mobile, and Mandurriao, along with a portion of the La Paz substation.

But for several areas served by MORE Power, the outage could stretch until 7 p.m., or a total of 14 hours, because of an additional two-hour allowance needed to safely stabilize the system before electricity is restored.

Initial estimates placed over 70,000 consumers, or 70 percent of MORE Power’s total customer base, at risk of the 12-hour power interruption. However, through a tie-up load transfer scheme requested by MORE Power, the utility successfully managed to reduce the interruption duration to five hours for around 20,000 of those affected, shifting them temporarily to other active substations.

MORE Power will also conduct simultaneous maintenance activities or “ride-on works” to maximize the scheduled grid shutdown and minimize future service disruptions.

Areas scheduled for a 14-hour interruption from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. include the entire Arevalo Feeders 1 and 2; Diversion Feeders 2, 3 and 4; Mandurriao Feeder 4; Megaworld Feeders 3 and 6; Mobile Feeders 2, 3 and 4; and Molo Feeders 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Also affected are portions of Diversion Feeder 1 and Mobile Feeder 5 and portions of barangays Inday, San Agustin, San Felix and Villa Anita in City Proper; Montinola and Our Lady of Lourdes in Jaro; Bantud, Magsaysay Village, Nabitasan and San Nicolas in La Paz; and Taal in Molo.

MORE Power’s separate “ride-on works” will likewise result in a 14-hour outage affecting portions of La Paz Feeder 1; the entire barangays of Bo. Obrero, Jalandoni Estate, Lapuz Norte, Libertad, Mansaya and Progreso in Lapuz; portions of Alalasan, Don Esteban, Lapuz Sur, Loboc, Punong and Sinikway; portions of Baldoza and Ingore in La Paz; and portions of Danao and Ed Ganzon in City Proper.

Other portions of Iloilo City will experience shorter interruptions.

Affected by an interruption from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. are the entire Jaro Feeders 1 and 2 and Megaworld Feeders 1, 2 and 4; portions of Diversion Feeder 1 and Mobile Feeder 5; Magdalo in La Paz; portions of Danao, Ed Ganzon and Kauswagan in City Proper; Roxas Village, Sampaguita and San Agustin in City Proper; Javellana, San Jose and San Pedro in Jaro; and Bantud, Burgos-Mabini, Jereos, Laguda, Luna, Magsaysay Village, Nabitasan, Railway and San Nicolas in La Paz.

Meanwhile, the entire La Paz Feeder 5, portions of La Paz Feeder 1, and portions of Arsenal-Aduana, Ed Ganzon, Kauswagan, Magsaysay, Nonoy, Sampaguita and Yulo-Arroyo in City Proper will experience interruptions from 5 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. and again from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

NGCP assured consumers that power will be restored immediately upon completion of the transmission upgrades.

MORE Power technical teams stated they will work to normalize and fully re-energize the distribution system within one to two hours following NGCP’s restoration, noting that electricity may return earlier if maintenance works finish ahead of schedule.

For account-specific outage verifications, consumers may contact MORE Power’s 24/7 hotline at (033) 526-6673 or 0917-557-6130, or message their official Facebook page./PN
