ILOILO – A newborn baby boy, with his umbilical cord still attached, was found alive inside a box in a house in a barangay in Concepcion, Iloilo on Thursday, January 30.
Residents discovered the baby after hearing his cries. Upon checking, they found the infant left inside a box.
Authorities said the mother, an 18-year-old student, was among those who gathered at the scene but later admitted she abandoned the baby out of fear.
The initial investigation by Concepcion Municipal Police Station revealed that the mother had concealed her pregnancy from her family, worried about her parents’ reaction, especially since her mother is an overseas worker.

The mother meanwhile admitted that before leaving, she breastfed her baby, hoping he would not cry.
As of this writing, both the mother and baby were in the hospital for proper medical care./PN
