BACOLOD City — The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) reported a generally peaceful, orderly, and secure New Year celebration following the successful implementation of Ligtas Paskuhan 2025, which ran from December 16, 2025, to 6 a.m. on January 1, 2026.
PRO-NIR attributed the calm holiday season to intensified police visibility, strategic deployment of personnel, and close coordination with local government units (LGUs) and partner agencies across the region.
More than 1,900 police personnel were deployed daily, supported by augmentation forces and advocacy groups. Officers were strategically positioned in transport terminals, tourist destinations, churches, and major convergence areas to ensure public safety.
As part of firecracker safety measures, police monitored 36 LGU-designated firecracker zones and 32 community fireworks display areas, effectively preventing major firecracker-related incidents. PRO-NIR reported zero deaths and no fire incidents linked to fireworks or pyrotechnics during the period.
Law enforcement operations also resulted in the confiscation of 23,415 prohibited firecracker items, further reinforcing efforts to ensure safe holiday celebrations.
Road safety operations were intensified through the establishment of motorist assistance hubs, enabling the prompt response to vehicular incidents. While 58 road crash incidents were recorded, police said timely interventions helped minimize injuries and prevent further harm, underscoring the importance of sustained road safety campaigns.
Crime incidence during the New Year period remained manageable, with no reported stray bullet incidents, reflecting the effectiveness of the police campaign against indiscriminate firing.
Meanwhile, PRO-NIR’s intensified anti-criminality operations led to the arrest of 91 illegal drug suspects, 101 wanted persons, and 34 individuals involved in illegal gambling, along with the seizure of 37 loose firearms—contributing to a safer environment for the public.
PRO-NIR Regional Director Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas C. Ibay commended police personnel and the public for their cooperation and discipline throughout the holiday season.
