ILOILO – A tragic head-on collision between a motorcycle and a tricycle claimed the lives of two drivers in Barangay Imbang Grande, Passi City, Iloilo late Tuesday night, February 3.
The victims were identified as alias “John,” 18, the driver of the motorcycle, and alias “Robert,” 27, tricycle driver. Both were residents of Passi City.
According to Police Lieutenant Charina Pagmanoja, public information officer of the Passi City Police Station, John had just left the Imbang Grande gym and was heading toward the city proper. However, he reportedly made a U-turn near a tower to head back in the direction he earlier came from.
At the time, Robert’s tricycle — carrying two passengers — was traveling toward Passi City proper.
Police investigation revealed that the accident occurred at around 11:20 p.m. after the tricycle attempted to avoid a damaged portion of the bypass road, and Robert failed to see the oncoming motorcycle, which was reportedly traveling without a headlight.
Both drivers suffered severe injuries. Police said John was declared dead on arrival at the hospital while Robert initially survived the impact but later died while undergoing medical treatment.
Passi City police added that the two tricycle passengers also sustained injuries.
