BACOLOD City — The Bacolod City office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced the postponement of a scheduled voter registration activity for students of Negros Occidental High School (NOHS).
The registration activity, originally set on March 11–12, 2026, has been moved to March 24 due to the school’s examination week. The activity will still be held at the same venue within the school.
The city Comelec assured the public that voter registration services will continue during the postponement period. Applicants may still register at the Comelec office located on San Juan Street in Barangay 12.
Meanwhile, Comelec Election Officer Atty. Kathrina Trinio-Caña clarified that the commission will maintain its regular operations despite the government’s recently announced energy-saving measures.
“Comelec is a constitutional body. Indi kami under sa executive so padayon sa five-day workweek,” Trinio-Caña said, noting that their office will continue to observe the standard five-day workweek.
The clarification came after President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. last Friday ordered the temporary implementation of a four-day workweek in selected government offices beginning March 9 as part of efforts to conserve energy and reduce fuel consumption amid rising global oil prices linked to tensions in the Middle East.
Following the President’s announcement, Malacañang released Memorandum Circular No. 114, signed by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, outlining the policy’s implementation.
The memorandum highlights the government’s need to adopt stricter energy conservation measures due to volatility in global energy markets, which has contributed to rising fuel prices and economic pressures.
Under the directive, government agencies are encouraged to accelerate the implementation of the Government Energy Management Program and reduce electricity and fuel consumption by 10 to 20 percent.
However, the President emphasized that offices providing essential and frontline services—including health, emergency response, and public safety—will continue their normal operations.
