CAPIZ — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Roxas City has declared a red alert status in preparation for the upcoming Holy Week observance, a period marked by increased public gatherings and religious activities.
The red alert status will be in effect from March 29 to April 5, as the BFP intensifies safety measures across the city.
In a local radio interview, Senior Fire Officer 1 Junemar Galve, public information officer of BFP-Roxas City, said the bureau has activated a comprehensive deployment plan to ensure public safety.
A total of 77 personnel have been mobilized and will be stationed in key areas expected to draw large crowds, including transport terminals, major churches, and the airport.
“Our primary goal is to mitigate potential fire hazards during this high-traffic period,” Galve said. “We are prioritizing areas where people gather in large numbers, and our teams will actively check for compliance with safety protocols.”
Aside from inspections, the BFP will increase its visibility through the deployment of fire trucks across the city. These units will conduct patrol operations while also serving as a reminder of fire safety.
Fire personnel will likewise engage the public by providing safety tips and guidance on fire prevention and emergency response.
To further strengthen its preparedness, the BFP will deploy a first aid service team on standby to assist individuals who may encounter health emergencies during the observance.
Galve also emphasized the importance of public cooperation in preventing fire incidents, urging residents to take precautionary measures before leaving their homes.
“Before leaving your homes, conduct a thorough inspection of your surroundings,” he said. “Check electrical wiring, altar setups, and appliances to eliminate potential fire hazards. Simple precautions can make a significant difference.”
