BACOLOD City – A 41-year-old tricycle driver was killed after he was allegedly stabbed by two brothers in Purok Malipayon, Barangay San Jose, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.
The victim, identified by the alias “Michael,” was a resident of the area. Police have identified the suspects as alias “Jansel,” 19, a blacksmith, and his older brother “Roben,” 29, a hollow block maker, both residents of the neighboring Purok Aboitiz.
According to Police Lieutenant Cipriano Lumanog III, deputy chief of the Sipalay City Police Station, the victim was repairing his motorcycle when he was confronted by Jansel and the suspects’ mother, on Monday, April 6.
The confrontation reportedly escalated into a heated argument. During the dispute, Roben allegedly joined the fray and stabbed the victim in the right side of his abdomen.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician, police said.
Authorities have successfully apprehended Jansel, while Roben remained at large as of writing. Police were still conducting follow-up operations and a manhunt to locate the latter.
Initial investigation by the Sipalay City police points to a prior conflict between the victim and the suspects as the motive behind the attack. The victim’s family is preparing to file murder charges against the two brothers./PN
