ILOILO City – Authorities arrested a mother and her daughter in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Simon Ledesma, Jaro district, seizing approximately 70 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P476,000.
The operation, which took place at around 12:05 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, targeted suspects identified as alias “Welnie,” 64, and her daughter, alias “Pani,” 37. Both are residents of the city and have been classified by police as high-value individuals.
The arrest was executed by the Iloilo City Police Office’s City Drug Enforcement Unit (ICPO-CDEU), in coordination with the Iloilo Maritime Police Station, the ICPO Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, and the Station Drug Enforcement Team of Police Station 9.
Recovered from the suspects were 10 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, buy-bust money, and various non-drug-related items.
Police Regional Office 6 director Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, lauded the operatives for their persistence in the region’s anti-drug campaign.
“I commend our personnel for their dedication and commitment to eliminating the drug menace. This accomplishment is not only ours but also that of the community,” Ligan stated.
He further urged the public to maintain vigilance and cooperate with law enforcement to keep neighborhoods safe.
The suspects are currently in police custody and face multiple charges under Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, specifically Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), and Section 26 (Conspiracy to Commit Illegal Drug Offenses)/PN
