BIANCA Gonzalez responded to being labeled “performative” amid her criticisms of the government, asserting that her fight for good governance started way before social media became mainstream.
The TV host amplified anew via her X page on Monday, May 11, the country’s need for a leadership that is genuinely for the people.
“Ang gusto lang naman ng mga Pilipino ay mapagaan ang buhay, na ang buwis na kinakaltas sa araw araw at sa sweldo ay maibalik sa paraan ng serbisyong pampubliko. Ano bang kailangang mangyari para matupad yun, para magkaroon ng sistema’t liderato na tunay na para sa tao?” she wrote.
While there were those who echoed her sentiment, some netizens questioned Gonzalez’s stance on such matters. They pointed out her friendship with individuals involved with politicians who are part of the current government the TV host criticizes.
No names were immediately mentioned, although it can be noted that Gonzalez is known to be friends with Toni Gonzaga who, along with her husband Paul Soriano, is a political ally of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
She is also friends with Mariel Padilla, wife of actor-turned-senator Robin Padilla, who is allied with former President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Imagine saying this while also hanging out with the wife of the senator who is also part of the problem. The call is coming from inside the house,” said @tzujuliee.
X user @pvblopabs added: “Ms. Bianca, nakakapagod na rin mabasa yung mga twts mong ganito tbh. Knowing na u are still close sa mga friends mong DIRECTLY involved sa mga pinaparinggan mo, di kita magets. Aney-aney na. Selective. Performative.”
“Ate Biancs, your dedication to performative politics should honestly be studied,” netizen @ivladimir remarked.
Gonzalez, in turn, asserted she is not the enemy.
“I’ve been around way too long in the fight for good governance, since pre social media days, to be categorized as performative. Hindi po ako ang kalaban,” she said.
Nonetheless, some netizens also came to Gonzalez’s defense.
“Its easier said than done. Some of my family members are still dds and you cannot say that I didn’t try. You are creating an enemy instead of pulling people on our side. Bianca is doing her part. Focus your frustration somewhere else coz comments like these are not helping (sic),” according to @anon0115.
