ILOILO City — A 37-year-old man was arrested on Monday afternoon, July 6, in Barangay Pagsanga-an, Pavia, Iloilo, for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Alias “Nelnel,” a resident of the same town, is currently detained at the Pavia Municipal Police Station (MPS).
According to Police Major Bonifacio Alabe Jr., chief of the Pavia MPS, the arrest took place at around 4:40 p.m. during a police checkpoint set up as part of an intensified campaign against loose firearms.
Alabe said the suspect was riding a motorcycle when officers flagged him down for not having side mirrors. However, when police asked for his driver’s license, they discovered a caliber .357 revolver loaded with five rounds of live ammunition inside his bag.
“He failed to present a license to possess the firearm. He was arrested,” Alabe said.
The suspect will face charges for violating Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Meanwhile, Colonel Bayani Razalan, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), commended the team, stating that the arrest is a direct result of his directive to intensify the province-wide crackdown on loose firearms./PN
