Cops seize unlicensed gun, ammos in Leganes raid

ILOILO City – Police arrested a 59-year-old man for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition during a raid in his house in Barangay Cari Mayor, Leganes, Iloilo over the weekend.

Alias “Mel” was caught in possession of a caliber .45 pistol loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition.

The successful operation was executed at around 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, by operatives of the Leganes Municipal Police Station (MPS).

The suspect was detained at the Leganes MPS. He will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Police Colonel Bayani Razalan, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), stated that the arrest was part of their intensified campaign against loose firearms.

Razalan recently directed all police chiefs to monitor owners of homemade and unlicensed guns and to carry out targeted operations.

“The successful implementation of this search warrant demonstrated our commitment to addressing the proliferation of undocumented and unlicensed firearms in our communities,” Iloilo province’s top cop said./PN
