ILOILO City – Jail authorities confiscated 35 cellular phones and other contraband during a greyhound operation at the Iloilo City District Jail–Male Dormitory yesterday morning, while surprise drug tests conducted on 43 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) all yielded negative results.
The operation was launched by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region 6 and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 following reports of unauthorized items inside the facility.
In addition to the 35 mobile phones, also recovered were a vape cigarette, a cellphone charger and four SIM card starter packs.
All confiscated items were inventoried and secured by authorities. BJMP-6 said further legal or administrative action will be taken in accordance with existing rules and regulations prohibiting unauthorized communication devices inside jail facilities.
Greyhound operations involve systematic searches of jail areas and belongings to identify and remove prohibited or unauthorized items. Such inspections are among the security measures used by jail authorities to maintain order and prevent contraband from circulating inside detention facilities.
BJMP-6 emphasized that it will continue conducting intelligence-based inspections in coordination with partner law enforcement agencies to eliminate contraband and strengthen security across its facilities./PN
