ROXAS City – More than a month before the Sinadya sa Halaran, the local governments of Capiz and Roxas City have not yet decided on what civic activities to handle, a senior officer at the City Tourism Office (CTO) claimed.
And a report that capitol is not joining the annual celebration in honor of the Our Lady of Immaculate Conception is fueling speculation that city hall may be left to hold the civic activities on its own.
“As of this moment, we are in a quandary,” Angelique “Alger” Inocencio told this reporter. “We do not yet know what the provincial government’s official decision is.”
“My information is the governor (Antonio del Rosario) issued a statement over the radio that, possibly, they will not join Sinadya sa Halaran due to lack of funds,” he said.
The Catholic church, through the Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral, has been handling all religious activities for the Sinadya sa Halaran. This year’s edition is set from Dec. 4 to 8.
Civic activities, which add color to the festivity, are handled by capitol and city hall. CTO officer-in-charge Bryan Agros appointed Inocencio in charge of the activities the city government will handle this year.
As far as city hall is concerned, it is ready to push through with the celebration even without support from capitol, the senior tourism officer said.
“We are even ready to change the title of the celebration to Halaran only,” Inocencio quipped. He did not elaborate.
This reporter was still trying to reach del Rosario and Provincial Tourism Officer Alphonsus Tesoro, who were not immediately available for comment as of this writing.
Sinadya sa Halaran is a merging of the festivals Sinadya and Halaran, originally separately held by Roxas City and Capiz province, respectively. It was first held from Dec. 1 to 8, 1992./PN
