SAN JOSE, Antique – Sibalom Water District advised its consumers to refrain from drinking tap water.
Its supply was contaminated by a chemical substance last week and remains non-potable, the water district said.
Samples of the water were subjected to analysis at Central Philippine University in Iloilo City. The water distributor is waiting for the results.
Sibalom Water District serves 2,700 households in 14 barangays in Sibalom town.
Engr. Jonathan de Gracia, the general manager, said they are following up on the results.
“We are advising our consumers to refrain from drinking or using [tap water] for cooking until we get the result,” he said.
The contamination at the water reservoir in Barangay Pasong, Sibalom was detected around 3 p.m. on Oct. 27.
Sibalom Water District had to immediately clean the reservoir and secure its perimeters with a barbed wire.
De Gracia said they reported the incident to the police. They suspected a prankster was behind it. (PNA)
