ILOILO – Dynamites and fishing materials confiscated from suspected illegal fishers were turned over to the municipal police station of Carles town.
Barangay Captain Abelardo Montibon of Asluman, Carles turned over the following:
* 18 pieces of improvised dynamites
* fishing boat
* Turo 12jp engine
* Akata 12hp engine
* stainless propeller with cross joint and steel shaft
* compressor tank with machine, and
* hose measuring more or less 100 meters.
These items were recovered on Nov. 13. The illegal fishers, however, managed to escape from pursuing tanods of Asluman, the municipal police was told.
Illegal fishing activities in Iloilo include the use of dynamites and active fishing gears such as trawls, among others.
The Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force is leading the anti-illegal fishing campaign. Its long-term goal is to protect the province’s marine resources.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr.’s standing order to the task force is to patrol Iloilo’s waters round-the-clock.
Arrested violators are charged with violating Republic Act 8550 (Philippine Fisheries Code), specifically Section 90 (use of active gears), and municipal ordinances that prohibit fishing in declared marine protected areas./PN
