ROXAS City – The “Langoy Capiz” slated on Sunday created hype for the first Capiz International Triathlon slated on April 22 to 23 next year.
The triathlon, also known as the Capiz Tri-Aksyon Cup, will be part of the 2017 Capiztahan celebrations. Another attraction of the festival is the nighttime parade of lights featuring floats that illuminate the different streets of the city.
Next year’s festival marks the 116th charter anniversary of Capiz, according to the Capiz Aksyon News Center on Saturday.
“Langoy Capiz” served as a tryout for the Universiad to be held in Taipei, Taiwan, an “Olympics” of universities around the world set for next year, Capiz Turboshark Swimming Club (CTSC) president Jose Borres added.
The event was a collaboration between the CTSC and the Philippine Swimming League (PSL), part of a national series of swimming competitions in the country in preparation for the Universiad, Borres disclosed.
“The PSL supports the country’s grassroots programs for swimmers. They help send swimmers to international competitions such as the Universiad,” Borres explained.
“They [PSL members saw] that Capiz is capable of holding any sports event with places such as Baybay beach [located in the coastal village of Baybay, Roxas City] and Villareal Stadium, eager to visit the different tourist spots in the province,” Borres told Capiz Aksyon News Center.
One of the biggest stadiums in Western Visayas, the Villareal Stadium was constructed in 1962. Some of its facilities are the Capiz Gymnasium, a swimming pool, track oval, soccer field, as well as outdoor sepak takraw , basketball and tennis courts.
“The PSL swimmers could share their positive experiences in the province through either word of mouth or social media, thereby encouraging more people to come to Capiz and consequently boost the tourism industry,” Borres concluded. (PNA)
