SAN JOSE, Antique – The famous Binirayan Festival of Antique is set to have its grand opening this coming Dec. 16.
The annual celebration anchors on “Celebrating Culture and Greatness,” and will showcase the rich history and cultural uniqueness of Antique.
On Monday, Antique governor Rhodora Cadiao extended her invitation for everyone to come and witness the festival.
Binirayan Festival depicts the arrival of the Malay Datus from Borneo to first settle in Barangay Malandog in the Municipality of Hamtic, Antique. They are believed to be the first Malay settlers based on Philippine history.
The month-long festivity, spearheaded by executive director Rexon Nodque, has planned different activities, kicking off last Friday with the Grand Christmas Lighting at the EBJ Freedom Park.
The Grand Opening Salvo will host a street dance parade around the capital town San Jose de Buenavista, followed bythe introduction of the Lin-ay kang Antique 2016, or the muses representing their respective municipalities. The muses are expected to raise their municipal banners during the opening program.
Provincial information officer Eric Otayde said that the highlight of the Binirayan Festival will be from Dec. 26 to 30.
Two main events, he said, that are anticipated every year are the Lin-ay kang Antique 2016 Grand Coronation Night and the Malay Ati Competition tribes competition. (PNA)
