ROXAS City – An owner of a hardware and grocery store in Barangay Poblacion, President Roxas, Capiz had been shot dead.

Two suspects, both natives of Sara, Iloilo, were arrested for the attack on Arnel Bucayan and wife Analou.

Another suspect, whom police identified as Roger Estrella, was killed.

The Bucayans, aide Jonel Ginog and security guard Noel Tumlos Jr. were walking home from their store at the public market around 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11 when two people riding in tandem in a motorcycle pulled over and shot them.

One of the suspects grabbed Analou’s bag, which contained an undetermined amount of money, while the other fired at Tumlos, who ran to seek cover.

When the shooting stopped, Tumlos came out and shot the suspects, hitting the one later identified as Estrella.

Arnel, 54, had a gunshot wound on the forehead, while Analou, 53, had one on the left forearm, police said.

They were taken to the St. Anthony College Hospital here, but the attending physician declared Arnel “dead on arrival.” Analou was already in a stable condition.

Ginog had gunshot wounds on both hands, while 15-year-old Joana Marie Bicodo was hit by a stray bullet on the right calf. They were taken to the Bailan District Hospital.

Witnesses told the police Estrella’s companion and another person on board a separate motorcycle sped away.

Thirteen empty shells and a deformed slug of a .45-caliber gun, and three unused bullets and two empty shells of a .9mm-caliber gun were recovered from the crime scene. They will be forwarded to the regional crime laboratory in Iloilo City.

All victims were residents of President Roxas.

The other two suspects — Jose Dacula, 56, and son Erwin, 26, both natives of Barangay Lantawan, Sara, Iloilo — were caught in the house of relative Elsa Dacula Sarabia in Barangay Hanglid, some 500 meters away from the crime scene.

Witnesses identified them as among the attackers, police said.

A motorcycle believed to have been used in the attack was seized from the Daculas’ possession.
Police identified Estrella through documents in a wallet found on him. He died of gunshot wounds on the head and body. (With Ruby Silubrico/PN)
