ILOILO City – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) yesterday cited local government units (LGUs) in Western Visayas with exemplary performance in various categories of governance.
These LGUs were given EXCELL (Excellence in Local Governance) awards at Punta Villa Resort in Arevalo district here.
The EXCELL awards aim to advocate transparency and accountability in governance, positively reinforce good performers, popularize replicable best practices, and identify possible interventions to improve LGU performance.
PROVINCE CATEGORY
Iloilo was the champion in Social Governance, Economic Governance and Environmental Governance. It was thus cited as the Best Performing Province.
Iloilo was also first runner-up in Administrative Governance.
The province of Capiz was the champion in Administrative Governance; first runner-up in the Best Performing Province award, Social Governance and Environmental Governance; and second runner-up in Economic Governance.
Aklan was second runner-up in the award for Best Performing Province, Administrative Governance and Social Governance, and first runner-up in Economic Governance.
Antique was second runner-up in Environmental Governance.
CITY CATEGORY
Iloilo City was the Best Performing City and champion in the fields of Administrative Governance, Social Governance, and Economic Governance while Passi City was the champion in Environmental Governance.
Iloilo City was second runner-up in the field of Environmental Governance.
Passi City was first runner-up in the Best Performing City award, in Administrative Governance and Economic Governance, and second runner-up in Social Governance.
Roxas City was second runner-up in the Best Performing City award and in the field of Economic Governance.
It was also first runner-up in Administrative Governance and Environmental Governance.
MUNICIPAL CATEGORY
For 1st- to 3rd-class municipalities, San Jose de Buenavista, Antique was the champion in Administrative Governance Social Governance, Economic Governance, and Environmental Governance. It was thus cited as the Best Performing Municipality.
For the 4th- to 6th-class municipalities, Tubungan, Iloilo was the champion in Administrative Governance, Social Governance, Economic Governance, and Environmental Governance. It was thus declared the Best Performing Municipality.
DILG also gave special awards to outstanding city and municipal local government operations officers and provincial directors.
DILG undersecretary Austere Panadero and DILG regional director Anthony Nuyda led the distribution of plaques and cash awards./PN
