SAN JOSE, Antique – Firefighters have cautioned the public against fires, especially during the holidays.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Antique reminded them to be extra careful when using matches and gadgets.
Make sure lighted candles or lamps and stoves are put off after use, said Fire Chief Inspector Crosbee Gomuwang.
In some municipalities, fire station personnel make rounds in barangays to give fire safety tips via a public address and distribute information materials on fire prevention.
In others, firefighters park their trucks outside the station for visibility. They also post hotline numbers the public may dial in case of emergencies.
Meanwhile the BFP reminded the public to comply with the laws on manufacturing, selling and using firecrackers and pyrotechnics.
In this capital town, Senior Fire Officer 3 Alex Ortiaga, acting municipal fire marshal, helped the Department of Labor and Employment hold a safety awareness course for firecracker vendors. (PIA/PN)
