KALIBO, Aklan – Accommodation establishments are already “70-percent booked” for the Ati-Atihan Festival next month.
More hotel and inn room reservations are coming in, according to the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Accommodation Association.
The association president Gerwin Garcia said they are expecting the rooms in the capital town to be fully booked by January 2017.
Ati-Atihan starts Jan. 9 with various merrymaking activities leading to the highlights — the religious procession and the mass on Jan. 17.
Albert Menez, chairman of the Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-atihan Festival, Inc., the festival organizer, said the 2017 edition will be “more spectacular and colorful.”
A float parade will be held on Jan. 9, while students and teachers are also parading with “Pagdayaw kay Señor Santo Niño” the following day.
Students and teachers will again hit the streets for “Sinaot sa Calle it mga Magueang ag Inungang Ati,” a dance competition organized by the Department of Education – Division of Aklan, on Jan. 11 and 12.
The Higante Contest, a competition of giant papier-mâché figures mounted on platforms, will be held by afternoon on the 12th.
A thanksgiving parade will be held on the 13th, and the much-awaited street-dancing competition among ati tribes and groups will be staged the following day.
The Mutya it Kalibo Ati-Atihan winner will be crowned on Jan. 6, said Menez. (With a report from PNA/PN)
