ROXAS City – Four towns in Capiz had no firecracker-related injuries during the recent holidays, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) said.
They were Cuartero, Jamindan, Pilar, and Tapaz, Health Education and Promotion Officer Ayr Altavas said in a radio interview.
It is now the second year that Jamindan had no registered firecracker and stray bullet case, Altavas pointed out.
The PHO monitored firecracker-related and stray bullet injuries as part of its Iwas Paputok campaign from Dec. 21, 2016 to Jan. 5, 2017.
Fifty-six firecracker-related injuries, inflicted mostly by the prohibited piccolo, were recorded in Capiz. Most of the victims were males (50).
Twenty-eight health facilities across the province recorded and reported the cases to the PHO.
The victims were from Roxas City (19); Pontevedra and Sigma (six each); Ivisan and President Roxas (four each); Dumarao, Mambusao and Panay (three each); and Dumalag, Maayon and Panit-an (two each). Dao and Sapi-an had one injury each.
No stray bullet injuries were recorded across Capiz, the PHO said. (PIA/PN)
