SAN JOSE, Antique – A government-sponsored information campaign on federalism is reaching the barangays.

Barangay officials were being made to understand the advantages of federalism, according to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) provincial program manager Raymund Palanog.

Integrated in the regular programs of the DILG, the information campaign goes along with meetings of the Liga ng mga Barangay and the Association of Barangay Secretaries/Treasurers, and community assemblies, among others.

Local government information officers — front-liners in the campaign — have undergone orientation on federalism last year, said Palanog.

Federalism is one of the priority thrusts of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The DILG is doubling efforts to comply with the directive to increase public understanding and support.

At the national level, the information campaign on federalism started in August 2016.

DILG secretary Ismael Sueno created a team that holds lectures, symposiums and orientations nationwide. (PIA/PN)
