BACOLOD City – In Silay City, Negros Occidental, a jail guard shot an inmate who tried to escape.
Abner Borce, 53, of Barangay Balaring, Silay City sustained a gunshot wound on the right foot.
Borce, a rape suspect, was taken to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here on Tuesday night.
After a court hearing earlier in the day, jail guards were about to bring Borce back to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility when the detainee complained of stomachache.
He asked to be taken to the Teresita Jalandoni Memorial Provincial Hospital, also in Silay City.
When he was admitted in the Emergency Room, Borce ran outside, jumped over a fence and hid in a manhole, police said.
The jail guards ran after him. They warned Borce that he will be shot if he did not surrender. He emerged from the manhole but ran again.
One of the jail guards fired a warning shot but the inmate continued running. That was when they shot him on the foot./PN
