KALIBO, Aklan – A human trafficking suspect had been arrested in this capital town.
Aldwin Salvania, a 40-year-old native of Sariaya, Quezon, had been charged with violation of Republic Act 9208, or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, specifically Section 6 (a) in relation to Section 4 (a).
Municipal police and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group operatives served him an arrest warrant at a convenience store near the cathedral on S. Martelino Street, Barangay Poblacion, around 12 noon on Tuesday.
Salvania was accused of recruiting three females from Negros Occidental in 2016 and forcing them to work in bars in Romblon.
Regional Trial Court Presiding Judge Bienvenido Barrios Jr. issued the warrant on Jan. 18.
After his arrest, police presented the suspect to Barrios. The judge set no bail.
Salvania was also subjected to a medical exam at the provincial hospital and fingerprinting at the municipal police station.
He was detained in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-managed facility in Barangay Nalook around 6 p.m. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
