MANILA Sen. Aquilino KokoPimentel III has lauded President Rodrigo Dutertes political willto rid the Philippine National Police of hoodlum cops.

On Tuesday, the senator expressed his support to the opposition of Duterte to the retraining plan of police officers engaged in misconduct.

Duterte earlier said that scalawag cops should remain suspended all overand retraining them would only make them better scalawags.

There is no place for rogue cops anywhere in the country and they should be sacked immediately once proven guilty of committing illicit activities, said Pimentel.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said that nearly 400 police officers have been recalled and sent to disciplinary retraining at Camp Crame.

Earlier, the Senate president from Cagayan de Oro criticized the practice of re-assigning erring policemen to Mindanao.

The region deserves honestand disciplinedlaw enforcers, Pimentel said.

Bad cops should go directly to jail if proven guilty rather than being redeployed in other areas, particularly in Mindanao,he added.

Pimentel has also urged the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to undertake housecleaningto regain the publics trust.

His statement comes in the heels of the abduction and murder of Korean businessman Jee Ick-joo last October, allegedly at the hands of officials in both the PNP and NBI.

I am deeply disappointed that the agency is squandering a precious opportunity it has been given to enhance its capability, the author of NBI Modernization Law said./PN
