THE historic Quezon Hall of West Visayas State University (WVSU) in La Paz, Iloilo City has been magnificently restored, thanks to a partnership between the Henry Sy Foundation and SM Foundation. Originally constructed in 1926, this architectural gem now shines as both a heritage landmark and a modern academic hub.
The restoration, led by Architect Gerard Ibañez of the WVSU Campus Physical Planning Office, involved meticulous efforts to preserve original features such as wooden moldings, stairs, and columns, while upgrading facilities to include 24 classrooms, faculty rooms, and administrative offices.
Modern amenities like enhanced lighting and restrooms were also incorporated.
Dr. Joselito Villaruz, WVSU President, hailed the project’s dual impact on education and heritage conservation.
“This restoration connects healthy buildings to an enriched learning environment, reinforcing long-term educational investments,” he said.
Dr. Lydia Echauz, executive director of the Henry Sy Foundation, added, “By restoring Quezon Hall, we invest not only in a building but in the dreams and futures of students who will shape their communities.”
The rejuvenated Quezon Hall now serves as the centerpiece of the College of Arts and Sciences, embodying the enduring value of heritage and education for generations to come./PN
