A time of reckoning for everything

“For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.” (Luke 8:17)

THERE IS a profound, unyielding truth that echoes through the corridors of history, courtroom
trials, and legislative hearings: transactions done secretly can never be kept secret permanently.

We are currently witnessing this reality unfold on a national scale through high-stakes impeachment proceedings and governmental investigations. What was once whispered in private corners, shielded by power and influence, is now being laid bare before the public’s eyes and ears. From bank accounts and money transfer transactions to the countless maleta-with-cash deliveries that were once thought secure from scrutiny, everything is being exposed to the harsh light of day.

Even the anomalous flood protection projects that plagued communities are finally having their intricate modus operandi dissected and investigated. Today, many find themselves behind bars— a stark reminder and a tangible demonstration that there comes a time of reckoning for everything done in the dark.

The Lessons of Public Accountability

The unfolding investigations teach us an inescapable lesson about human nature and power: secrecy is a fragile illusion. Those who amass ill-gotten wealth or abuse public trust often operate under the comforting assumption that their deeds will remain hidden beneath layers of bureaucracy, intermediaries, and silence. Yet, time and again, history proves that truth has a persistent way of breaking through the surface. Documents surface, digital footprints remain indelible, and consciences—or alliances—fracture. The public spectacle of wrongdoers facing accountability is not merely a political or legal event; it is a moral mirror reflecting a universal law of cause and effect.

A Scriptural Reflection: The Divine Standard

Beyond the halls of Congress and the judgment of human courts lies a higher, inescapable tribunal. Long before investigators subpoena bank records or witnesses testify under oath, the divine order has already established that nothing remains hidden forever, and that everyone will answer for every deed he has done – whether openly or in secret.

Scripture reminds us with absolute clarity that God sees all things, penetrating both the secret actions and the hidden motives of the heart, even your own heart:

“For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.” (Luke 8:17)

We may successfully deceive our peers, our employers, or the public for a season, but humanity operates under the watchful gaze of a Creator who never slumbers nor sleeps. Psalm 121:3-4 reminds us that the Keeper of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps, observing both the righteous and the unrighteous with perfect clarity.

Furthermore, divine justice is not passive, nor does it overlook wickedness. Ecclesiastes 12:14 declares:

“For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.”

In our personal lives, this truth should serve both as a sobering warning and a profound source of comfort.

The Personal Reckoning

It is easy to look at national scandals and focus entirely on public figures, corrupt officials, and institutional decay. However, the principle of a reckoning extends far beyond political corruption—it reaches into the quiet spaces of our own individual lives.

Every person harbors private moments, unspoken thoughts, hidden compromises, and quiet choices made when no one else was watching. We might manage our public reputations carefully, projecting virtue while nursing private vices, deceit, or unfairness toward others. But the scriptural reality is that God’s justice reigns forever. No private dishonesty, no hidden malice, and no secret kindness goes unnoticed by Him.

God’s eternal justice is a promise that righteousness will ultimately be vindicated.

Conclusion

The investigations, the exposed bank transfers, and the prison cells of today are merely earthly echoes of a greater spiritual truth: secrets have an expiration date. Just as hidden corruption is inevitably dragged into the public square, every human life will ultimately account for its stewardship. Let us therefore live with transparency, integrity, and a deep reverence for the One who sees all, knowing with certainty that there is a time—and a reckoning—for everything.

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Galatians 6:7/PN
