MANILA – Two Bacolod Tay Tung’s High School standouts will soon be sprinting around the tracks of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) in Manila.
This was after Negros Occidental’s Antonette Jay Aguillon and Ara Rahbea Delotavo formalized their commitment with the Far Eastern University’s (FEU) track and field team on Monday.
Aguillon will play for the Lady Tamaraws in the 100 and 200-meter dash, triple jump, and long jump events. Delotavo, on the other hand, will be part of FEU’s hurdles and relay squad.
“It was really a dream for me to be able to play in UAAP so I am very thankful to FEU, especially to coach Ross [Hamero] for giving me this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Aguillon on Tuesday told Panay News.
“This is a huge blessing for me and I am very excited to join the squad,” added the 18-year-old sprinter. “I am also looking forward to improve my game there and I will do everything to help them in the UAAP.”
During her stint with the Bacolod Tay Tung, Aguillon has won gold medals in the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association (NOPSSCEA), Palarong Panlalawigan, Milo Little Olympics, Batang Pinoy, National Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA), and Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation (FCAAP) Invitational where she was the Most Valuable Player.
Meanwhile, Delotavo aims to further hone her skills with the FEU. She looks forward to facing her elder sister, Hannah Delotavo, who committed to De La Salle University last year.
“I feel extremely grateful to receive an offer to play for FEU. I know I can be a better track and field player there with the help of my coaches and my teammates,” Delotavo said.
“I am also very excited since I will be facing off with my elder sister Hannah, who is with La Salle, as well as my former teammates at Bacolod Tay Tung High School,” she added.
Delotavo, for her part, has represented the country in Arafura Games in Australia, where she won a gold and silver medal. She garnered gold medals in the NOPSSCEA, Palarong Panlalawigan, Milo Little Olympics, Batang Pinoy, National PRISAA and FCAAP./PN
