MANILA – Former National University Bulldogs hitter and current Philippine Air Force Elite member Reuben Inaudito survived a hacking incident after trying to intervene in a commotion in his hometown of Kalibo, Aklan on Sunday night, New Year’s day.
Rolyn Inaudito, brother of Reuben, confirmed to Panay News that his older sibling was one of four victims injured. Inaudito was immediately rushed to the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital in Aklan.
Bulldogs head coach Dante Alinsunurin said in an interview on Monday evening that Inaudito is now in stable condition after sustaining wounds from a jungle bolo wielded by a drunken man.
“Actually, nakikiawat lang si Reuben pero siya ‘yun nadale nung bolo nung isang lasing,” Alinsunurin said. “Nangyari daw iyon noong (New Year’s Day) ng gabi doon sa kanila sa Kalibo.”
“Nabalitaan ko na lang nung tinawagan ako nung girlfriend niya (noong Monday),” he added. “Pero hindi pa niya naikwe-kwento sa akin ‘yung buong pangyayari dahil siguro natataranta but the good thing is safe siya.”
According to the police report, suspect Jonel Renacido, 44, was drunk when he alighted from his tricycle and proceeded to hacked anyone near him at Purok 4C, Laserna.
Inaudito came hoping to pacify the suspect but he was also hacked. Police officials immediately responded and arrested Renacido.
Aside from Inaudito, the other victims were identified as Leander Ylanan, Roland Inaudito and Bobby Francisco, all resident of the area.
Inaudito aided in the Bulldogs’ back-to-back championships in the UAAP men’s seniors volleyball from Season 75 to 76. He was also adjudged the Finals MVP during those seasons.
The Aklanon hitter was also a vital cog for the Philippine Air Force Jet Spikers’ Open Conference and Reinforced Conference championships in the 2nd Spikers’ Turf last year./PN
