KALIBO, Aklan – Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries can help in tourism promotion and solid waste management, a Sangguniang Bayan member said.
According to Phillip Yerro Kimpo Jr., conditional cash transfer program recipients may be deployed as “solid waste management community enforcers” and paid a percentage of fines collected from violators.
The Municipal Solid Waste Management Board broached the idea, Kimpo told a recent statistical research forum at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan session hall.
“They (4Ps beneficiaries) receive much. What little they can give back will be big,” he said.
They may promote tourism, too, by producing items from recycled waste or helping the local government employ a humane stray animal control system and become scouts for animal rescue, said Kimpo.
He said they may also help clean and beautify tourist destinations or participate in the planned revival of the Piña Village.
Aklan has 27,247 registered and active 4Ps beneficiaries, latest data showed.
The government has given them P1,646,721,400 in benefits since 2008.
A total of 2,152 beneficiaries are availing themselves of health grant package, 930 children of 4Ps families are in day care, while 52,742 schoolchildren aged 6 to 18 years old are being monitored. (PIA/PN)
