KALIBO, Aklan – Street-level and high value drug targets are under close monitoring of the reactivated Aklan Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU), a top police official said.
Aklan Police Provincial Office director Senior Superintendent Lope Manlapaz warned drug users and pushers of the crackdown on illegal drugs in the province.
Last week, three suspects were arrested in separate drug buy-bust operations in this capital town and in the world-famouis Boracay Island.
“Sa mga nagnenegosyo tigilan na ang droga, mahuhuli rin kayo. Walang maidudulot na mabuti ang droga sa lipunan at sa pamilya,” Manlapaz said.
He added, “Sa panahon na hindi nag-operate ang ating kapulisan, unti-unting bumalik at nagkaroon ang mga drug personalities ng opportunity na magbenta ng droga at makontak ang kanilang suppliers.”
In October last year, President Rodrigo Duterte gave the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) the sole authority to handle anti-narcotics operations in the wake of alleged abuses that police perpetrated.
However, PDEA was undermanned and does not have enough resources.
“Nakita natin na hindi kaya ng PDEA ang operations sa illegal drugs dahil kukonti ang personnel nila. Bumaba din ang number of operations ng PDEA kumpara sa ating kapulisan,” Manlapaz said.
Manlapaz also noted that illegal drugs in Aklan are sourced from Iloilo, Capiz, Region 4-A, and Mindanao. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
