MANILA – Swimmers from Aklan topped their respective divisions, bagging a total of 17 gold medals in the 22nd Milo Little Olympics Visayas leg in Cebu City.
Kyla Soguilon took seven gold medals in secondary girls while Michael Lozada raked in 10 in elementary boys on Saturday at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Soguilon, a 12-year-old Regional Science High School student, broke two records, tallying 1:12.42 in 100m backstroke and 2:39.60 in 200m backstroke.
She captured her other gold medals in 100m butterfly, 200m individual medley, 200m freestyle, 100m freestyle, and 200m butterfly en route to being named the Most Outstanding Athlete in the leg.
“Masaya po ako at naka-seven na gold medals ako dito sa debut ko sa secondary division even if some of my opponents were older than me,” said Soguilon, who won 11 gold medals as an elementary swimmer last year.
“Kinabahan rin po ako nung una dahil sa mga nakalaban ko but I am thankful that everything went well,” added the two-time Palarong Pambansa Most Outstanding Swimmer.
Meanwhile, the 10-year-old Lozada also broke a record in 400m freestyle.
He bagged his other gold medals in 200m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 50m breaststroke, 50m backstroke, and 100m butterfly.
A total of 5,490 athletes from Visayas participated in the three-day regional finals. The annual meet had 15 sporting events, including 10 Olympic sports./PN
