MANILA – Kyla Soguilon has once again showed her prowess as she bagged three medals, including a gold, at the start of the 2016 Hamilton Aquatics Winter Long Course Swimming Championship on Saturday in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The Kalibo, Aklan-native Soguilon captured her first gold medal in the two-day swim fest as she placed first in the 12-and-over 100 meter freestyle event with her 1:05.37 clocking.
The 11-year-old Soguilon also bagged silver medals in the 12-and-over 400 meter individual medley, 50 meter freestyle and 50 meter backstroke, as well a bronze in the 100 meter butterfly.
Aside from the Kalibo Sun Yat Sen School product Soguilon, also making her presence felt for the Philippine Swimming League (PSL) backed Philippine team is Micaela Jasmine Mondeh, who claimed five gold medals.
Clinching a silver medal each for the PSL are Triza Haileyana Tabamo, Sean Terrence Zamora, Paul Christian King Cusing, Rio Lorenzo Malapitan, Sean Elijah Enero, and Albert Sermonia II.
Bagging bronze medals in the opening day are Zamora, Enero, Malapitan, Sermonia, Tabamo, and Drew Benett Magbag. The PSL sent 11 athletes to the prestigious international competition.
“It’s our first time to compete in Middle East,” said PSL president Susan Papa. “We only have 11 swimmers in the lineup. It’s a good exposure for them, competing against their foreign counterparts. Sending them abroad is part of our program for these swimmers.”
This marks the PSL’s last competition this year following their successful campaigns in Tokyo, Japan last February and October; Perth, Australia last March; Hong Kong last April; and Singapore last August and September./PN
