AKLANON swimmer Michael Gabriel Lozada took home three gold medals in the 128th Philippine Swimming League’s Langoy Capiz Swimming Championship at the Villareal Sports Complex in Roxas City, Capiz.
Lozada, a Palarong Pambansa standout, captured his first gold after topping the boys’ 11-year category 50m backstroke with record-breaking 34.69 seconds on Sunday. He also won golds in 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly.
His elder sister Natazha Alexia also stamped class in the tournament, winning gold in the girls’ 13-year category 200m freestyle.
Natazha Alexia topped the event with two minutes and 34 seconds, while fellow Aklanon Jennuel Booh De Leon ruled the boys’ 12-year 50m butterfly in 32.10 seconds.
Winning gold medals in the boys’ side were King Elijah Roberto, Keepe Yvange Alba, Lance Magno, Mark Anthony Garcia Jr., Denki De Miguel, Khraven Brian Villareal, and Carl Steven Iquiña.
Capturing gold medal in the distaff side were Dominique Sombito, Joan Perlas, Kate Zaria Roberto, Jamie Michaela Refugio, Alicia Atienza, Maria Reina Nazareta, Melrose Aleligay, and Celine Ann Delitavo.
Langoy Capiz will determine the swimmers the Philippine Swimming League will send to the Summer World University Games in Naples, Italy next year, and in swimming events in Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, and Australia, said league president Susan Papa.
“Our main objective is to identify talents and send them to international competitions,” Papa said in a statement. “We have a lot of talented swimmers from the Visayas region, that’s why we keep on coming back to this region.”/PN
