TEAM Asialink drew first blood in the 2018 Iloilo Basketball Club Association (IBCA) Invitational League with a 65-60 win over UK Sports Basketball Club at the Barangay Zamora gym in Iloilo City.
Led by Alexander Parcon, Jake Fuertes, Arfie Orbita, and Kent Loui Quitayen, Asialink played catch-up with the upset-conscious UK Sports on Monday before pulling away late for its first win.
“They are saying that we are the team to beat in this tournament but we don’t want our players to be pressured by that notion, so we will work hard in preparing for our matches,” said Asialink team manager Philip Doce Punzalan.
Also part of the Asialink squad were Christ Juntilla, Bryan Andrade, Tyron Sulangob, Ian Largo, Cedie Eraga, Troy Formacion, Aeron Gozon, Ian Doce, Jay-R Samones, John Lester Eramis, Judd Refugio, Jomil Pendon, Jonas Lee, and Louie Votacion.
In other matches, UK Sports Juniors team leaned on Kent Aclan to beat Legaspi Ballers 75-69, while MBC Snipers scored 64-46 over Crossworld behind the hot shooting of Mike Sarabia.
Other participating teams were Pitbull City Proper Selection and JRH Eagles, which comprised a selection of players from Iloilo City.
The champion in the IBCA Invitational League will earn a slot in the Champions Cup of the Panay Sports Association tentatively scheduled in March./PN
