MANILA – At least four persons were killed in Albay province due to “Rolly,” which was downgraded to typhoon from its super typhoon status, according to Gov. Al Francis Bichara.
In an interview over DZBB on Sunday, Bichara said three of the fatalities, including a five-year-old kid, died due to river overflow in Polangui town, while the other one was killed due to a fallen tree in Daraga town.
“Sa ngayon, apat ‘yung accounted for. ‘Yung isa, nadaganan ng malaking punong-kahoy habang ‘yung tatlo related sa ilog, nag-overflow, nawasak ‘yung dike at ‘yun ‘yung mga namatay,” Bichara said.
“‘Yung batang ‘yun malamang inanod ‘yun. Siguro isang pamilya habang ano nabitawan siguro, inanod ‘yung isang bata. ‘Yung isa naman, inanod ng lahar, at sa Polangui mayroon ding inanod sa ilog,” he added.
Bichara said clearing operations are ongoing in some areas, including the road going to Tiwi, where “Rolly” made its first landfall. Inspections and assessment for damages is ongoing in the affected areas.
Meanwhile, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council spokesperson Mark Timbal sees at least 19.8 million Filipinos (equivalent to 4.2 million) households were affected by the typhoon.
Timbal added that 346,993 persons were preemptively evacuated from different regions of Luzon and Visayas to date.
“Our predictive analytics reflect between 19 million to 31 million individuals will possibly be affected by the storm based on the population count in the areas within the typhoon track,” Timbal said./PN
