BACOLOD City – Officers of Police Station 7 are still trying to identify three gunmen who killed a 59-year-old resident of Barangay Alijis.
The suspects fled after shooting Joeffrey Parandas around 7 p.m. on Jan. 12, police said.
Parandas was having dinner with his family when the assassins suddenly barged into their house, the victim’s son, Cris, told Panay News.
Parandas sustained wounds on the head and died on the spot.
Cris said one of the men was armed with a .45-caliber pistol while the other had an assault rifle.
The suspects then herded Cris, his wife, and his child to the other room. One of the gunmen went to Parandas’ room.
Before they sped away, the suspects opened the cupboards and cabinets in the house as if they were looking for something.
Cris and his family were left unharmed.
Police Lieutenant Conrado Espino said they have obtained footage of a close circuit television (CCTV) from a neighboring house showing the suspects arriving in a motorcycle. The third suspect, he added, served as a lookout.
Initial reports showed that Parandas was listed in a drug watchlist from another police station in the city.
The victim’s family, however, denied that Parandas was involved in illegal drugs.
Espino said they were also looking in to other angles as Parandas was said to be formerly a fixer in the Land Transportation Office and also ran a small money lending business./PN
