BACOLOD City – Police were still hunting the suspects in fatally stabbing two men in Barangay Alijis.
The fatalities were identified as brothers Jessie Navaja, 18, and Jonathan Navaja, 29 – residents of Purok Pedrosa in Alijis.
Police Station 7 commander Chief Inspector Ramil Sarona said their cousin Laurence De la Cruz and friend Jerry Martinez were also injured in the incident that happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday.
Police only identified the suspects as “Waray” and “Pawpaw.”
According to investigators, the Navajas, De la Cruz and Martinez were binge drinking in a videoke bar in front of the Santuario de Bacolod on Saturday evening.
The two suspects were also at the bar along with their unidentified companion.
When the suspects’ companion left, the two groups joined in one table.
Police said one of the suspects is a suitor of Martinez’s sister.
A commotion ensued between the two groups due to misunderstanding. Responding police officers were able to pacify them.
However, when the bar closed and the police were no longer in the area, Jessie and one of the suspects had a fistfight, which led to the stabbing.
Jonathan, who laid down the road due to drunkenness, was also stabbed by one of the suspects.
Martinez tried to intervene but he was also stabbed. He was currently recuperating at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center./PN
