ILOILO – Alimodian town wants to be declared drug-free.
Mayor Geefre Alonsabe said they have submitted their application for the declaration to the Police Regional Office 6.
Citing police and local government monitoring, Alonsabe said there are no more drug personalities in Alimodian.
Of its 51 villages, only nine are drug-affected, but these are being processed for clearing by the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADACs), he said.
They have 33 drug yielders, and the local police are closely monitoring them through home visitation and other activities, said Alonsabe.
“We are really working hard to convince drug users and pushers na magbalik-loob,” he said.
Today the town will hold Ilonggo’s Run Against Illegal Drugs 2016.
In October it also held an Anti-Drug Summit. The BADACs, Municipal Advisory Council, municipal hall department heads, Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), and the Philippine Army, among others, attended.
Other municipalities aspiring to be declared drug-free are Lemery, San Miguel and San Rafael.
In July the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 cited three drug-free towns during its anniversary celebration.
Bingawan, Tubungan and Mina received certificates of recognition signed by PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac. Bingawan was declared drug-free in March 2014; Tubungan, December 2014; and Mina, early 2016.
