MANILA – After showing her prowess with the Ateneo Lady Eagles in the UAAP and with various teams in the Shakey’s V-League, Alyssa Valdez is set to play in a Thailand-based volleyball league next year.
Valdez, a three-time UAAP MVP, has been signed to play for the 3BB Nokornonnt team, which will resume its campaign in the Volleyball Thailand League on Jan. 7 against King-Bangkok.
The 3BB Nakornonnt, in a statement posted on its Facebook page Saturday evening, confirmed the addition of Valdez, aiming to improve its current 3-2 win-loss record in the tournament.
“3BB Nakornonnt is set to fight even harder in as the team officially signs Philippine star Alyssa Valdez,” it said. “[Our head coach] believes in her attacking and defensive skills which will strengthen the team in Leg 2 of the league.”
“It’s pretty safe to say most of the Thai volleyball fans know her,” the team added on Valdez, who earned the interest of the 3BB Nokornonnt after joining the Ateneo Lady Eagles in a training camp in Thailand earlier this month.
The 23-year-old Valdez, in a previous press statement, said that playing overseas, specifically in Thailand, will be one of her priorities next year as she aims to hone her skills further.
“Thailand is a definite possibility for 2017 and we hope to finalize details by early next year,” said Valdez. “But for now, I’m just focusing first on spending the holidays with my family and loved ones. Hoping for all the best in the coming year.”
Valdez, who has won several MVP trophies in the Shakey’s V-League, last played for the Bureau of Customs Transformers in the Reinforced Conference, finishing runner-up to the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors.
Among Valdez’s teammates in the 3BB Nokornonnt team are former Transformers imports Som Kuthaisong and Nic Jaisaen and Thailand national team members Tichaya Boonlert and Kokram Pimpichaya./PN
