MANILA – GlobalPort Batang Pier was serious in its youth movements during offseason with the addition of four rookies, including Filipino-Swedish Andreas Cahilig.
Cahilig was a 3-point gunner whose father, Reynoso, traced his roots from Aklan province.
Batang Pier will have a new head coach for the 2017-2018 PBA Season, too – Alfredo “Pido” Jarencio.
GlobalPort also signed centers Lervin Flores, Julian Sargent and Joseph Gabayni – all acquired in a trade with Star Hotshots for Robbie Herndon and Gian Abrigo.
Terrence Romeo, Stanley Pringle, Sean Anthony, Ryan Arana, Bradwyn Guinto, Jonathan Grey, Arnold Van Opstal, Marnel Baracael, and Nico Elorde were set to return to the team.
Gone from the team were veterans Mike Cortez, John Billy Mamaril, Joshua Urbiztondo, Paolo Hubalde, Robby Celiz, Philip Paredes, Mark Cardona, and Rico Maierhofer.
“This 2018 season, our team will be overhauled with youth and skills,” said Batang Pier team owner Mikee Romero. “Defense will now be practiced, together with coach Pido’s run-and-gun style.”
“There will also be no old players as only three of our (under contract) players are over 30. The rest are all in their 20s,” he added. “We are glad with our new additions to the team.”/PN
