MANILA – Marian Jade Capadocia and Anna Clarice Patrimonio bested their foes to move on to the quarterfinals of the 36th Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open women’s singles at the PCA indoor court.

Capadocia, a native of San Jose, Antique, overpowered Khryshana Brazal 6-0, 6-0 while defending champion Patrimonio flashed top form to boot out Princess Catindig 6-2, 6-0 on Wednesday.

A four-time champion in the tennis tournament, Capadocia will next face Sydney Ezra Enriquez, while Patrimonio will next tangle with Jhastine Red Ballado in their respective bids for a semifinals seat.

Also moving on to the next round were Khrizelle Sampaton, Shaira Rivera and Rachelle De Guzman, who defeated Gie Gatchalian (6-0, 6-3), Rafaella Villanueva (via walkover) and Madison Kane (via walkover), respectively.

In men’s singles, defending champion Patrick John Tierro, Filipino-Italian Marc Reyes, John Bryan Otico, and Fritz Verdad scored easy romps to advance to the quarterfinals.

Tierro outpointed John Altiche 6-3, 3-0, Reyes dominated Dave Mosqueda 6-2, 6-0, Otico thumped Ronard Joven 7-6 (3), 6-3, and Verdad swept Jose Marie Pague 6-1, 6-1.

A total of P500,000 in cash prizes were up for grabs for the winners./PN
